The Rosary is a form of vocal and mental prayer based on the Mysteries of our Redemption. It is divided into fifteen decades. A decade is a group of one "Our Father" and ten "Hail Marys". The Rosary is usually prayed five decades at a time, although on very special occasions, all fifteen decades are said at one sitting.
The recitation of each decade is accompanied by meditation on one of the fifteen events or "Mysteries". The Mysteries consist of three groups of events in the Life of Christ which led to our Redemption - the Joyful, the Sorrowful, and the Glorious.
