The Rosary is a form of vocal and mental prayer based on the Mysteries of our Redemption.  It is divided into twenty decades.  A decade is a group of one "Our Father" and ten "Hail Marys".  The Rosary is usually prayed five decades at a time, although on very special occasions, all twenty decades are said at one sitting.

The recitation of each decade is accompanied by meditation on one of the twenty events or "Mysteries".  The Mysteries consist of four groups of events in the Life of Christ which led to our Redemption - the Joyful, the Sorrowful, the Glorious, and the Mysteries of Light.
